What is Magento?

Magento is the powerful and leading open source eCommerce platform for running an online business. It was developed back in 2007 by the company Varien, now known as Magento, with co-founders Roy Rubin and Yoav Kutner. In February 2011, Rubin announced that eBay has invested into the company. Only a few years later did the eBay and Magento partnership end, with Magento now being backed by Permira.
